Fire safety in sustainable data centre, Iceland

We are very proud to be the supplier of the SEM-SAFE® fire protection system in Verne Global’s latest data centre expansion, our first Danfoss project in Iceland.
In line with Verne Global’s sustainability approach, our system uses green technology: water mist.
In addition, the Danfoss pump is highly energy efficient. There is zero risk of oil contamination, thanks to the Danfoss pump being lubricated by water and not by oil.
The key advantages for using the SEM-SAFE® high-pressure water mist system in the data centre are:
- It is very easy to expand the system to cover new data halls and other areas and applications as the data centre grows
- In case of a fire situation, the system can be reused as many times as needed, which is a great advantage over gas systems, which are one-shot solutions
- The optimised design of the pump unit makes maintenance very easy, with no need for expensive cylinder refills, as is the case for gas systems
- The pump unit requires only periodic testing, for a reduced total cost of ownership
For these new high-density data halls, our system include pump units with tank, pre-action section valves and high-pressure water mist nozzles dedicated and tested for data centre application. 3D BIM files of the products were provided by Danfoss, thus facilitating the system design and dimensioning, as well as planning for installation and future maintenance.
